How to Find Your API Key in folk

folk keeps API keys in your workspace settings, and creating one takes about thirty seconds. The key authenticates as a bearer token, and folk does not ask you to choose scopes — the key carries your own access.

Steps to create a folk API key

1. Open Settings In folk, click Settings in the sidebar, then open the API keys section under API.

2. Or go straight there The API keys page has a direct address: app.folk.app/apps/contacts/network/settings/api-keys.

3. Create the key Click New API key, give it a name that identifies the tool you are connecting, and create it.

4. Copy it straight away Copy the key as soon as it appears and store it somewhere safe. If you navigate away before copying it, create a new one rather than hunting for the old value.

A note on custom fields

folk's API lets integrations read and map your existing fields, but not create new ones. In practice that means a tool syncing enriched data — job titles, company details, social profiles — can only write into fields that already exist in your folk groups.

If you want enriched data to land somewhere specific, create those fields in folk first, then connect. Any decent integration will let you map its data points onto them afterwards.

Keeping the key safe

A folk API key acts with your own permissions, so anyone holding it can read and change the contacts you can. Create a separate key per tool, delete keys for anything you have stopped using, and never share one in a screenshot or a support thread.
